There are several different groups of animals which we call worms. Most of them are not closely related to each other. The main groups are:
  • Platyhelminthes (flatworms)
  • Annelida (segmented worms)
  • Nemertea (ribbon worms)
  • Aschelminthes (roundworms, pinworms, eelworms, threadworms, hairworms, etc.)
  • Sipuncula (peanutworms)
  • Echiura (spoonworms)
  • Acanthocephala (spiny-headed worms)
  • Pogonophora (beardworms)
  • Chaetognatha (arrowworms)
