Biological Environment > Mitochondria on Soccearth |
|

|
Soccearth is a way of understanding the sizes of small things. Imagine a soccer ball blown up to the size of the Earth. What would things look like? That is the place we call Soccearth. A mitochondrion is about the same size as a bacterium. On SoccEarth a mitochondrion would be about 50m long - the size of this hot air balloon. Just as the balloon burns gas to stay afloat, so the mitochondrion burns the waste products of the cell. But in the process it makes ATP, the energy molecules of life. |
