During the first half billion years of the solar system's history many objects called meteorites hit the Earth and other planets, making large holes called craters. These meteorites were the last of the planetesimals being swept up by the planets. On most planets the craters can still be seen, but on Earth the weather has worn away signs of most of them. | |
