North America continued to crush into Europe and Siberia, forming more mountains.

This period saw one of the largest mass extinctions of all time in marine life. Whole communities of sea invertebrates were wiped out. This could have been caused by an ice age which occurred at this time, perhaps brought on by the snow on those mountains.
