| Around 1600 years ago the Roman Empire was split into two. The Western Empire was ruled from Rome while the Eastern Empire was governed from Constantinople, modern Istambul. The Eastern Empire is often called Byzantium. It was more influenced by the Greek language and ideas than the Western Empire was. | ||
